Adopt a collection: how it works

Hello and thank you for your interest in adopting one of our collections.

Your donation

Your donation will help us safeguard the future of your adopted collection and the rest of the archive so that these records will be preserved in perpetuity. You will also be helping to make the wealth of images and documents freely available to people all over the world.

Adoptable collections

Any funds will be donated to the care of all our collections. The collections currently offered for adoption are available to multiple adopters and you may adopt more than one collection.

We plan to add more collections to the Adopt a Collection scheme over time, and if you have any suggestions for other collections to make available for adoption, please let us know.

If we notice that a particular collection is attracting a lot of attention and support, that will indicate to us that the collection is especially significant and worth prioritising in terms of how we use it and make it available.

Recognition

We would love to thank you for your support and to give you the recognition that we feel you deserve. This will usually involve hand writing your name and your adopted collection in the Adopters’ Register that will be kept safe at the Archive and displayed at events. We can also discuss acknowledging your adoption on our website. You can read more about the different ways that Adopters are recognised here.

Anonymity

However, we respect your right to privacy. If you would prefer not to have your name displayed in connection with the adopt a collection scheme, please tell us and we will happily respect your wishes.

Keeping in touch

When you adopt a collection, you will be automatically added to our Adopters’ mailing list. We will usually send you enewsletters to keep you informed of our collections such as new additions and work that is being done to material to conserve and make it available to the public.

If you would prefer not to be added to this mailing list or if you ever wish to stop receiving the enewsletters, please contact us at friends@millsarchive.org or you can unsubscribe directly by clicking the “Unsubscribe” button at the bottom of an enewsletter.

You can rest assured that we take your privacy very seriously and will not share your data with third parties. To read our data protection policy, click here.

How you will be kept informed

We will keep you informed of how we use your adopted collection, such as when it is featured in a blog or displayed as part of an exhibition. We will also update you on our activities, significant milestones and important new collections that you will be helping us to protect and make available to the public. You will be kept informed by email, but if you would prefer not to receive communications about the adopt a collection scheme then please let us know using the contact details below.

If you ever have any questions then please contact the Development Manager Liz Bartram at friends@millsarchive.org or on +44118 950 2052.
