Cowper referred to the site of Clifton Reynes mill in the fifth book of “The Task” (Winter morning walk), written in the 1780s. The mill had by then already been dismantled and the machinery, stones and other items offered for sale. The latter is recorded by an advertisement in the Northampton Mercury, Oct 21 and 28, 1771.
