Originally a steam powered stone mill, the building was designed by architect E W Pugin in 1865 and is now Grade II listed. The mill was purchased by Charles James Hudson 1891 and remodelled in 1901 by Henry Simon. C J Hudson Ltd merged with Hookers of Chatham in 1950, which then merged with Marriage and Son Ltd in 1959. The mill was taken over by Hovis-McDougall in 1960, and continued working as part of Rank Hovis McDougall until the 1990s. The building has now been converted to accomodation.
