It was co-sited with a windmill.

According to A History of the County of York East Riding: Volume 6, the Borough and Liberties of Beverley: "A water mill apparently on the site of High Mill was the only one in use in the 19th century. In 1822 it was offered for sale together with a windmill, which still stood nearby in 1853. Both mills went out of use, and the windmill was demolished, later in the century; the water mill has also been demolished."
